Senior Services would like to provide you with a few resources that might be useful to you in the event of an emergency.
Special Services
The West University Parks and Recreation Department strives to provide services enabling seniors to maintain independence and quality of life. We provide transportation to medical appointments, salons or barbers shops, banks and grocery stores to West University residents. Dedicated volunteers help the staff achieve program goals by coordinating communication and office functions, serving at luncheons and providing assistance with daily service delivery.
Applications for volunteer opportunities can be picked up in the Senior Services office.
Precinct Bus Trips
Each month Harris County provides bus transportation to locations within a 200 mile radius from Houston. Recently Senior Services visited Galveston with Ray Miller, various alternative living establishments for seniors, and the Young Artist Show in Roundtop. Upcoming trips include a trip to the boot factory in Gonzales, TX, sailing the San Bernard River, the Antiques Fair in Roundtop, a trip to the Battlefield Military Museum/Herb Garden, and holiday shopping at the Katy Mills Mall. Be sure to sign up early to secure your spot.
Van Outings
The city of West University Place plans local trips within a 45 mile radius of the City of Houston. Join us for an afternoon of theatre, and Opera in the Heights, tours of various museums, and wine tasting in Sugarland.
Good Neighbor Team
A group of caring and concerned “neighbors” give back to their community by offering friendship and assistance to homebound senior residents. Their focus is to assist seniors as friends/good neighbors by making occasional telephone contact or home visits, providing resources/referral information and acknowledging special occasions with cards and small gifts. Those interested in becoming “A Good Neighbor” can call 713-662-5895 for more information.
Senior Services Board
Provided for under city ordinance, and appointed by Mayor and Council, the board meets monthly to help assess the needs of seniors within the community. It assists with program planning and provides guidance to staff members in determining program objectives.
