
Recycling
The City provides curbside pickup of recyclables once a week. Please see the Recycling Route Map to determine your scheduled day. For questions about pick-up on holidays, click on the Holiday Schedule. The City also operates RecyclExpress, a 24-hour recycling drop off facility.
Recycle Bins
Replacement recycle bins are availalbe for a cost of $15 and may be picked up at the Public Works Administration office located at 3826 Amherst. If you have any questions regarding replacement of bins, please contact (713) 662-5839.
Curbside Pickup
"Commingled" product consisting of aluminum cans, bi-metal cans, plastics #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7, and clear and colored glass are to be placed in the blue recycle bin provided by the City. Paper is to be separated and placed into paper bags, then placed beside the blue bin. Cardboard is to be flattened and placed beside the blue bin. All recyclable products are to be placed at curbside no sooner than 6:00 p.m. the day before and no later than 8:00 a.m. on your regular pickup day. If you need a bin, call 713.662.5839.
A blue recycle bin is provided to each resident. Additional bins may be purchased for $15 at Public Works, 3826 Amherst. Bins with wheels are also available for a slight additional charge.
RecyclExpress
The City encourages the use of RecyclExpress, our 24-hour drop off center located at 5004 Dincans (just south of Westpark near Kirby). The center accepts cardboard, home and office type paper, aluminum cans, bi-metal cans, plastics #1, 2, 3, 4, 5 & 7, and clear and colored glass. Signs clearly mark where to drop each product.
Free Shred It Event
The City, in conjunction with Shred It, hosts two free shredding events (Spring & Fall) each year. The event is held on the first Saturday of May and November (the week following Heavy Trash Day). The event is held at our recycling facility (RecyclExpress) located at 5004 Dincans.
There is a limit of 5 banker boxes per household and the event runs from 9:00 AM - Noon.
Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
The City of West U does not operate a Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) Facility, but West U resident can utilize Harris County's HHW facility located at 6900 Hahl Road, Houston TX 77040. For more information regarding Harris County's facility, please visit Clean Water Clear Choice's HHW website.
