The City Council consists of the Mayor and four Council Members. West University Place is among the few cities with a truly citizen legislature. The City Council is elected on a non-partisan basis. Elections are held the second Saturday in May of odd-numbered years and members serve a term of two years. Members can serve for more than two successive terms in each office. The Council has the authority to enact legislation, adopt budgets, establish policies and appoints the City Manager, City Secretary, City Attorney, City Municipal Court Judges, prosecutors and clerks.
City Council meets the second and fourth Monday of each month. Council Meetings begin at 6:30pm in the Municipal Building, 3800 University Boulevard. All council meetings are open to the public. Residents are encouraged to attend.
The next West University Place General Election will be held May, 2011.
