SKF ball bearings are available in various cross sections and satisfy a huge variety of operating conditions and performance requirements.
1 Deep groove ball bearings
Deep groove ball bearings are particularly versatile. They are suitable for high and very high speeds, accommodate radial and axial loads in both
directions and require little maintenance. Because deep groove ball bearings are the most widely used bearing type, they are available from SKF in
many designs, variants and sizes.
1)Single row deep groove ball bearings
Single row deep groove ball bearings are available capped (with seals or shields) or open. Open bearings that are also available capped may have
recesses in the ring side faces.
SKF inch bearings in the EE(B), RLS and RMS series are intended as aftermarket items and, therefore, SKF recommends not using these bearings for new
bearing arrangement designs.
2)Stainless steel deep groove ball bearings
Stainless steel deep groove ball bearings are available capped (with seals or shields) or open. Open bearings that are also available capped may have
recesses in the ring side faces.
These bearings have a lower load carrying capacity than same-sized bearings made of high chromium steel.
3)Single row deep groove ball bearings with filling slots
Single row deep groove ball bearings with filling slots have a filling slot in both the inner and outer rings to accommodate more balls than standard deep
groove ball bearings.
Filling slot bearings have a higher radial load carrying capacity than bearings without filling slots, but their axial load carrying capacity is limited. They
are also unable to operate at the same high speeds as bearings without filling slots.
Deep groove ball bearings with filling slots are available open or with shields on one or both sides. They are also available with or without a snap ring
groove. Open bearings that are also available with shields may have recesses in the outer ring.
Large size deep groove ball bearings with filling slots, without cage, are available on request.
4)Double row deep groove ball bearings
Double row deep groove ball bearings are very suitable for bearing arrangements where the load carrying capacity of a single row bearing is inadequate.
For the same bore and outside diameter, double row bearings are slightly wider than single row bearings in the 62 and 63 series, but have a
considerably higher load carrying capacity.
Double row deep groove ball bearings are only available as open bearings (without seals or shields).
SKF double row deep groove ball bearings are fitted with two snap-type, ball centred glass fibre reinforced PA66 cages (designation suffix TN9).
When used at high temperatures, some lubricants can have a detrimental effect on polyamide cages. For additional information about the suitability of
cages, refer to Cages.
2 Insert bearings (Y-bearings)
Insert bearings (SKF Y-bearings) are based on sealed deep groove ball bearings in the 62 and 63 series, but have a convex outer ring and in most cases an
extended inner ring with a specific locking device, enabling quick and easy mounting onto the shaft.
3 Angular contact ball bearings
Angular contact ball bearings have inner and outer ring raceways that are displaced relative to each other in the direction of the bearing axis. This
means that these bearings are designed to accommodate combined loads, i.e. simultaneously acting radial and axial loads.
The axial load carrying capacity of angular contact ball bearings increases as the contact angle increases. The contact angle is defined as the angle
between the line joining the points of contact of the ball and the raceways in the radial plane, along which the combined load is transmitted from one
raceway to another, and a line perpendicular to the bearing axis .
1)Single row angular contact ball bearings
SKF single row angular contact ball bearings can accommodate axial loads in one direction only. This type of bearing is typically adjusted against a
second bearing. Their bearing rings have an upper and a lower shoulder and are non-separable.
2)Double row angular contact ball bearings
SKF double row angular contact ball bearings design corresponds to two single row angular contact ball bearings arranged back-to-back.
3)Four-point contact ball bearings
Four-point contact ball bearings are radial single row angular contact ball bearings with raceways that are designed to support axial loads in both
directions. For a given axial load, a limited radial load can also be supported (→ Load ratio). The bearings are separable, i.e. the outer ring with ball and
cage assembly can be mounted separately from the two inner ring halves.
Both inner ring halves of SKF Explorer four-point contact ball bearings have a recessed shoulder. This improves oil flow when the bearing is used in
combination with an SKF cylindrical roller bearing . In addition, these recesses can be used to facilitate dismounting.
4 Self-aligning ball bearings
Self-aligning ball bearings have two rows of balls, a common sphered raceway in the outer ring and two deep uninterrupted raceway grooves in the
inner ring. They are available open or sealed. The bearings are insensitive to angular misalignment of the shaft relative to the housing , which can be
caused, for example, by shaft deflection.
5 Thrust ball bearings
SKF thrust ball bearings are manufactured as single direction or double direction thrust ball bearings. They are designed to accommodate axial loads
only and must not be subjected to any radial load.
6 Angular contact thrust ball bearings
SKF angular contact thrust ball bearings are separable, i.e. the washers and ball and cage assemblies can be mounted independently of each other.
Although originally designed to support the rotary tables of drilling rigs, they are also suitable for other applications.

1 Cylindrical roller bearings
SKF cylindrical roller bearings are available in many designs, series and sizes. The major design differences between the bearings presented in this section are in:
the number of roller rows (one, two or four)
the type of cage (with, without or special designs)
Bearings with cage can accommodate heavy radial loads, rapid accelerations and high speeds.
Full complement bearings (without cage) incorporate a maximum number of rollers and are therefore suitable for very heavy radial loads at moderate speeds.
SKF high-capacity cylindrical roller bearings combine the high load carrying capacity of a full complement bearing with the high speed capability of a bearing with cage.

2 Needle roller bearings
SKF needle roller bearings are bearings with cylindrical rollers that are small in diameter relative to their length. The modified roller/raceway profile prevents stress peaks to extend bearing service life.

4 Spherical roller bearings
Spherical roller bearings have two rows of symmetrical rollers, a common sphered outer ring raceway and two inner ring raceways inclined at an angle to the bearing axis . The centre point of the sphere in the outer ring raceway is at the bearing axis.
5 CARB toroidal roller bearings
CARB toroidal roller bearing
CARB toroidal roller bearings have one row of long, slightly barrel-shaped symmetrical rollers and torus-shaped raceway profiles. They are non-locating bearings and accommodate exclusively radial loads. CARB bearings are often used to replace the non-locating spherical roller bearing in a locating/non-locating bearing arrangement.
6 Cylindrical roller thrust bearings
SKF cylindrical roller thrust bearings are designed to accommodate heavy axial loads and impact loads. They must not be subjected to any radial load. The bearings are very stiff and require little axial space.
7 Needle roller thrust bearings
SKF needle roller thrust bearings are fitted with a form-stable cage to reliably retain and guide a large number of needle rollers. Needle roller thrust bearings provide a high degree of stiffness within a minimum axial space. In applications where the faces of adjacent machine components can serve as raceways, needle roller thrust bearings take up no more space than a conventional thrust washer.
8 Tapered roller thrust bearings
SKF tapered roller thrust bearings are designed to accommodate heavy axial loads and peak loads. The bearings are very stiff and require little axial space.
9 Spherical roller thrust bearings
SKF spherical roller thrust bearings have specially designed raceways and asymmetrical rollers. The bearings can accommodate axial loads acting in one direction and simultaneously acting radial loads. The load is transmitted between the raceways via the rollers at an angle to the bearing axis, while the flange guides the rollers .
To complement our bearings, SKF supplies a wide assortment of bearing accessories, such as adapter sleeves, withdrawal sleeves and lock nuts.
Seals and bearing housings are covered in their own sections. The accessories covered in this section include sleeves and lock nuts, used for locating and locking bearings in position on a shaft.
Adapter and withdrawal sleeves are used to locate bearings with a tapered bore on plain or stepped shafts. They facilitate bearing mounting and dismounting and, in many cases, simplify bearing arrangement design.
2 Lock nuts
Lock nuts are used to locate bearings and other components onto a shaft or adapter sleeve and facilitate mounting and dismounting. SKF supplies a wide assortment of lock nuts. SKF lock nuts are easy to install, do not damage the shaft and provide effective locking.
Track rollers are designed to run on all types of tracks and to be used in cam drives, conveyor systems, etc.
The outer ring running surface is crowned as standard. With the exception of single row cam rollers, track rollers are also available with a cylindrical (flat) outer ring running surface.
SKF supplies track rollers greased, sealed and ready-to-mount. They are available in many different types and designs and for a wide variety of operating conditions and applications. The assortment includes:
cam rollers (yoke-type track rollers based on ball bearings)
support rollers (yoke-type track rollers based on roller bearings)

Machine tools and other precision applications require superior bearing performance. Extended speed capability, a high degree of running accuracy, high system rigidity, low heat generation, as well as low noise and vibration levels are just some of the challenges.

Many applications require spherical bearings that are suitable for oscillating movements and that can accommodate misalignment. Rolling bearings only partly fulfil these requirements as they are generally designed for continuous rotation and can only accommodate limited misalignment. Therefore, SKF manufactures spherical plain bearings, rod ends and bushings to provide an economical solution to these challenges.
SKF manufactures spherical plain bearings, rod ends and bushings in various designs and with different sliding contact surface combinations. Each design and combination has characteristic properties which makes it particularly suitable for certain applications.
Slewing bearings comprise an inner ring and an outer ring, one of which usually incorporates a gear. Together with attachment holes in both rings, they enable an optimized power transmission with a simple and quick connection between adjacent machine components. The bearing raceways, in conjunction with the rolling elements and cages or spacers, are designed to accommodate loads acting singly or in combination, and in any direction.
Selecting the appropriate slewing bearing can be a challenge, particularly if there are stringent technical, reliability or economic demands. In these cases, for example, SKF application engineering service can provide advanced calculations and simulations utilizing state-of-the-art analyse methods to optimize and validate the best design to meet the customer requirements.

A slewing bearing with only 30% left of its calculated service life can be well worth remanufacturing.
